Primary Purpose:

 

Implements the educational activities of the classroom.  Receives general supervision from the building principal.  Prepares and plans art activities.  Provides students with basic knowledge of business education and its relationship to higher education and the workplace.

 

Qualifications:

 

        Education/Certification:

       Bachelor’s degree

       Valid Business Education certificate

 

 

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      Knowledge of teaching methods, materials and practices.

      Demonstrated research and teaching experience.

      Ability to develop a curriculum that emphasizes a variety of techniques.

      Proficiency with computers and the ability to teach computers.  

      Demonstrated ability in long-range planning, budgeting, administration and exhibitions.

 

Experience:

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  1. Instructional Program
    Works with district instructional staff to implement, strengthen, improve the program.
  2. Keeps informed of new developments in curriculum and instruction methods.
  3. Implements new and established programs.
  4. Provides students with diversified learning activities.
  5. Helps interpret the curriculum to parents.

Classroom Supervision

  1. Teaches students good study habits.
  2. Promotes positive self concepts; provides encouragement to each student to develop his/her full potential.
  3. Understands social/emotional adjustments of students.
  4. Promotes students’ awareness, respect for different cultures.
  5. Creates an appropriate learning atmosphere in the classroom; maintains classroom order.
  6. Maintains student attendance, tardiness records.
  7. Makes evaluation reports upon request.
  8. Maintains records of individual students’ progress through assignments, quizzes and projects.
  9. Keeps inventory of materials, equipment, supplies.

 

Communication

  1. Maintains contact with parents, guidance personnel to evaluate student academic and social growth.
  2. Takes initiative to work cooperatively with other school departments; shares ideas among faculty members, administration.
  3. Participates as appropriate in school-community affairs.

 

Professional Responsibility

  1. Works in the interest of the students’ physical, emotional welfare.
  2. Accepts, incorporates suggestions for classroom improvement. 
  3. Participates in professional growth by attending workshops, taking courses, reading new literature, observing other teachers and attending in-service training meetings. 

Other

  1. Assists in determining on-going budgetary needs of the department.
  2. Performs related duties as required.

 

Working Conditions:

 

      Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

      Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.

 

 

Travel:

      Some out-of-district weekend travel may be necessary.
