Description

Primary Purpose:
Assist in supervision, maintenance, repair, and installation of all electrical systems/equipment, transformers, panels, lights, plugs, wiring, and electrical motors in the District, in order to minimize interruption of the education process.
 
Qualifications: 
 
High school diploma or GED
Driving record that meets the requirements of the district’s insurance carrier
Minimum two years previous experience in Commercial Electrical - preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

  1. Demonstrate acceptable work habits including timely attendance, teamwork, initiative and dependability.
  2. Assist in installation, maintain, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  3. Assist in the installation and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
  4. Assist in install and connection of power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for   machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  5. Replace light bulbs and ballast.
  6. Assist in repairing or replacing plugs and switches.
  7. Assist in repair of fire and security systems.  
  8. Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis.
  9. Ability to use hand and power tools.
  10. Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
  11. Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  12. Able to receive and complete work orders as assigned.
  13. Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  14. Work with building supervisors to complete projects.
  15. Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  16. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  17. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  18. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  19. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

    Equipment Used:
     
    Multi meters, ohmmeter, and testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe bender, and threader;  fork lifts, power tools, hand tools, pipe wrenches, saws, drills/motors, scaffolds, ladders, man lifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and heavy equipment (trencher, jackhammer, concrete saw, ladder, light truck or van.

Working Conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to lift 25 pounds and climb to heights over 50 feet.  Frequent driving of vehicles, working with machinery, climbing of ladders, scaffolds, etc. Continuous pulling, lifting, carrying, dragging and squatting. Frequent working at heights, stooping, crawling, and bending. Subject to temperature extremes, wet, slippery surfaces, enclosed spaces. Exposure to fumes, dust, solvents, toxic chemicals/materials, noise, high voltage, roof tar, grease, oils, insulation fibers, and ceiling tile fibers. Exposure to rain, snow, sleet, lightning, wind, sun and ice. Frequent districtwide travel.
