Primary Purpose:
Evaluate and provide leadership for the secondary (6-12) instructional program of the district. Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of secondary curriculum (6-12) and staff development. Facilitate the effective use of technology in instructional program districtwide. Assist in the development of short-and long-range plans for the integration of technology into the instructional program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Master’s degree in education administration or relevant discipline Valid Texas teaching certificate Valid Texas Mid-management or Principal certification T-TESS Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness Ability to manage budget Ability to coordinate district functions Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to interpret data Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience:
Two years experience as a classroom teacher Two years experience in instructional leadership roles Two years experience as a campus or district-level administrator preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional and Program Management (6-12)
- Direct secondary instructional, curriculum, assessment, and professional learning services to meet students’ needs.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate secondary instructional programs with teachers and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques.
- Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
- Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.
- Involve secondary instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
- Ensure technology is appropriately leveraged in the teaching-learning process.
- Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of education goals.
- Ensure that goals and objectives are developed using collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques when appropriate.
- Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs of the district.
- Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.
- Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources to assist principals and instructional staff in attaining objectives.
- Provide effective staff development activities that incorporate the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from teachers and others.
- Participate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive staff development plan.
- Provide staff development to teachers and administrators in methods of involving technology in the delivery of curriculum.
- Be a beacon for information regarding current research and significant developments in education.
- Develop and implement a continuing evaluation of the instructional technology program and implement changes based on the findings.
- Serve as liaison to outside vendors that provide support for technology materials.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area, and in the area of instructional technology.
- Compile, maintain, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures regarding curriculum and instruction issues.
Budget
- Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
Communication
- Provide for two-way communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community.
- Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community.
- Monitor professional research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
Community Relations
- Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing district’s mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Demonstrate use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
