Primary Purpose:

 

To develop and promote ways in which the district’s curriculum objectives and student performance goals may be better achieved through evaluation of instruction, teacher training, and curriculum development for use with bilingual and ESL students.

 

Qualifications:

 

      Minimum Education/Certification:

      Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

      Master’s degree in education preferred

      Valid Texas teaching certificate, with Bilingual and/or ESL endorsement

 

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

     

      Knowledge of research-based instructional practices and strategies for English language        learners

      Strong instructional coaching skills

      Experience with differentiated instructional theories & practices, particularly in a high,          low socioeconomic school setting

      Strong pedagogy background and knowledge of second language acquisition

      Knowledge of TEKS, ELPS, and TELPAS

      Effective communication skills

      Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

      Possesses effective decision-making skills

      Strong work standards for self and others

      Ability to mentor teachers

      Ability to conduct staff development effectively

     Experience in development, preparation, and presentation of information to adult                 audiences, including educators.

     Ability to motivate and inspire others to ensure success for all students

     Prefer Spanish speaking to a degree that allows for conversation with and understanding       of understanding of English language learners

     

      Minimum Experience:

      Minimum three years of successful classroom teaching experience

 

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Program Management

  1. Plan and present training sessions to help raise level of instructional performance to increase student achievement of English language learner as directed by Bilingual/ESL coordinator.
  2. Work collaboratively with teachers, principals, curriculum director, Bilingual/ESL coordinator, and others on content problems to find solutions to meet student/district needs.
  3. Compile, maintain, and analyze reports, records, and other documents required on student achievement.
  4. Comply with policies established by state and federal law, State Board of Education Rule, and the local board policy in the area of bilingual/ESL education and curriculum and instruction.

 Curriculum Support

  1. Assist teachers in understanding and successfully implementing the curriculum.
  2. Meet regularly with teachers to plan high quality instruction using effective teaching practices.
  3. Confer with teachers, principals, and curriculum director on content/technical concerns.
  4. Consult with teacher, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.

 Instructional Support

  1. Work collaboratively with campus teachers to refine their knowledge and skills through activities such as in-class coaching, observing, modeling instructional strategies, guiding teachers in looking at student work, developing lesson plans based on student needs and assessments, supporting the integration of technology, and co-planning/co-teaching.
  2. Provide direct, classroom-based professional development for teachers through classroom modeling and observation/feedback.
  3. Regularly meet with teachers to assist in selecting effective instructional supplies, equipment and materials to support the delivery of the district curriculum.
  4. Assist staff members in determining instructional strategies that reflect understanding of the diverse needs of students.
  5. Analyze student achievement data and assist with intervention plans based on data.

 Communication

  1. Establish and maintain open communication.
  2. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

 School Climate

  1. Support collegiality and team building among campus staff members and district colleagues.
  2. Maintain a professional relationship with students, colleagues, parents, interns, administrators, and community members.
  3. Assist in creating a positive school climate.

  1. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  2. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  3. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  4. Assist in the development and delivery of professional development workshops that improve teachers’ understanding of curriculum expectations and instructional strategies.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

 

Computer, phone, fax machine, copier, printer, basic office machines, data projectors and other presentation equipment as needed.
