Primary Purpose:
Identify and provide dyslexia services to students on an elementary campus. Provide an instructional program characterized by the following descriptions: the components of phonemic awareness, graphonphonemic knowledge, language structure, linguistic patterns, and process. Instructional approaches include explicit, individualized, and multi-sensory instruction.
Qualifications:
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Bilingual preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skill
Minimum Experience:
Three years experience teaching; reading preferred
Proven ability to work with students, parents, peers, and superiors
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for the differences in student learning styles.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Work with campus staff members to determine student schedules.
- Administer and gather pre- and post-instructional data to monitor program effectiveness and student growth in the area of reading.
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with District's Student Code of Conduct.
Communication:
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, administrators, specialists, and teachers.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Comply with federal, state, district, and campus regulations and policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
Supervisory Responsibilities: NONE
Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Proven ability to work with students, parents, peers, and superiors especially during stressful periods of time. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, lifting and moving of small equipment. Daily travel between several campuses. Reliable transportation is a must.
